Random Photo

Hi guys,

After a long cult following of outie, i shall start posting for the first time. Not sure if you guys will like this.

This photo is the start of a far away 'ground to cloud attraction formation' (don't know if there is any specific name).

Will be posting random photos in this thread from time to time. Appreciate it if I can spark some photography discussion here.

This is a bald tree amongst the forest. It was so isolated by the lack of green that I think is quite special to share.

Enjoy.

Which city or town was the first photo taken in?

Also, what iso did you take this at? I'd be amazed with a high iso considering there's barely any light source and from what I can see, only a small amount of noise.

And if you look closely there's a small amount of vignetting especially on the top, but it adds to the picture.

And taken with a Pentax K-7.. Nice!
What lens did you use for this? I'm guessing a fisheye lens, or maybe post-processed to give the fish-eye look.

The first pic was taken at iso400, which should produce quite a low amount of noise with most dslr. Shot in Singapore with a sigma 10-20mm. Didn't deliberately do anything to distort the photo, i think it comes from the lens innate barrel distortion.

It was just turning night (i think just before 7pm), so the sun from below the horizon are still illuminating the sky, though just a little.

Yea, is Pentax K7, love it!

Nice! So there was still a small amount of light then. And at 400 iso you were still able to get a lot of detail.

I guess the vignetting in the photo comes from the barrel distortion then. lol Deliberate or not, it added to the photo.

Checked out the exif data and at 1/20 shutter speed, either you're a statue or you used a tripod (or a monopod) for this shot. I'm thinking the latter. 1/125 might have actually been good too to get a better DOF. Still, this photo is amazing. You never get supercells or anything like it in Chicago..

Spot metering also worked well for this shot since you got all the details you wanted for the supercell and underexposed the rest of the shot..

Supported my hands on the railing. Actually at 10mm, even if without support, the picture will usually turns out sharp. Might be because the K-7 sensor stabilizer is good. If the railing is there, why not. haha

Think the vignette was due to the lens, wide angle lens usually shows soft vignette at the corners. Guess that's the limitations of going very wide. I am guessing the new Sigma 8-?mm is gonna be slightly worse.

at 1/125 you need a very large aperture. I am already at f4 at iso 400. To have the same exposure, I need to reach f1.7, which is gonna cause problem. In fact, I will need to go to smaller aperture, like an f8 to have a sharper picture. But that will reduce my shutter to 1/5, might produce quite a bit of hand shake.

You still have the handrail!! lol;)

What's the maximum aperture of the lens you used?

And at 1.7 aperture, that photo will be soft as hell.

And whoever can handhold a DSLR at 1/5 and still produce a decently sharp picture is non-human. lol

Max at f3.5, so can't do much anyway. The rail can do a good job, but I am paranoid about hand shake sometimes. Can't count the number of time I thought is tact sharp on the lcd, and turns out to be blurred when I load it on the monitor.

lol There's a reason why camera companies show off the resolution of their lcd screens also, but you never really know until you check it out in the computer.

One more old photo. It was taken a while back at 450mm focal length. Interesting lizard, but I was more enticed by its scales and color.

Only for the lizard pic, where color was boosted. The first pic is just the usual RAW conversion, i think +5 for the vibrance, which is quite mild.

Did you crop the original picture?

Anyway, I'm guessing an increase in blacks and shadows and a decrease in light though only slightly...

And recovery of course.. lol

No crop pics in this thread so far. The first pic went through luminosity curve adjustment though, if not the bottom part will be slightly more visible.
